Decatur is the Adams County seat, south of Fort Wayne. The St. Marys River runs through, downtown is compact, and the neighborhoods around it are full of older roofs. Those roofs have gable vents. Squirrels have opinions about gable vents.
South of the city, fields and small woods come right up to backyards. That is groundhog country, and skunk country, and sometimes snake country when rodents are fed and happy. In town, the calls are more often upstairs. Scratching at dawn, a thump at night, a smell that showed up after the cold set in.
Berne and Geneva are farther south. If you are in Decatur, or just north toward Monroeville and Hoagland, we can usually help. Send the ZIP. 46733 covers most of town. We will say so if the drive is too far.
Houses around Decatur
Older gables in town and edge yards that open onto fields. The upstairs and the ground floor are both part of a normal visit.
